Wellness Program Gaining Strength
We are committed to investing in the health of our employees. Flanner and Buchanan, like many companies, is experiencing rising health care costs. We also see that our staff could be healthier, and happier. Realizing that prevention is the first step towards better health, we established a wellness program back in 2010.
The wellness teams started with an employee survey to find out what staff believed were the most important health issues. In addition to the survey, we began an educational campaign on various topics through bi-weekly newsletters that get attached to all associate’s paychecks. We also developed a GetFit page as well as a Heath Tip of the Day on our internal website called GroupNet.
Flanner and Buchanan is just one of the companies in the Buchanan “family” of businesses. The others are Washington Park Cemetery Association, Buchanan Group Management Services, and the Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
In February of this year we were excited to start the Buchanan Get Fit in 12 Weeks Challenge. The purpose is to encourage staff and their spouses to shed pounds through a company-sponsored weight loss program. Our goal is to promote awareness of healthy eating, healthy body weight, and simple activities which will lead to a healthier lifestyle. Twenty-six associates joined the challenge and to date we have lost a total of 256.6 pounds!
Our team has other wellness programs in the works including the Couch to 5K Run and establishing walking clubs within the Washington Park Cemetery Association cemeteries. The Couch to 5K Run is a two-month program that slowly build up endurance to complete a three-mile run.
